Entisys Solutions partners with D G Educational Services in providing relief to victims of the Haitian earthquake
CONCORD, Calif., January 26, 2010 – In the aftermath of the massive earthquake that rocked Haiti on the afternoon of January 12, 2010, hundreds of thousands of individuals have opened both their hearts and their wallets in an effort to support relief efforts.
"At Entisys Solutions, our employees were so touched by the news and pictures coming out of Haiti, that they worked together to raise $3,441 to support Haitian relief efforts," said Mike Strohl, CEO, Entisys Solutions. "When they told us how much they had raised, we were so moved by their generosity, that we chose to match the donation for a total contribution of $7,000."
While many charities are currently conducting relief efforts in Haiti, Entisys wanted to make sure that its donation would reach the people who so desperately need it, with as little as possible being used for administrative fees and overhead, and chose to donate the $7,000 to D G Educational Services, a nonprofit organization based in Northern California.
"When we started looking at charities who were serving Haiti during this crisis, we weren't sure which one would be able to make the greatest impact with our donation," continued Strohl. "However, after looking at the D G Educational Services Website and organizational mission, we knew it was the best, and the only choice for us."
Mark and Myriam Pasternak, founders D G Educational Services, and their two daughters, were in Haiti on the afternoon of January 12, 2010 when earthquake hit. The Pasternaks are there as part of a special project to help Haiti rebuild for a sustainable future. Myriam, a veterinarian, is currently serving as a Farmer to Farmer volunteer to help locals learn how to raise rabbits, which can serve as a source of income and meat for hundreds of families. Myriam and other volunteers are working specifically to help improve the conditions under which the rabbits are kept, and to improve their production.
Through D G Educational Services, 100% of Entisys' donation will benefit Haitians and they try to rebuild their lives. One of the focus areas for D G Educational Services is to help Haitian's rebuild and repair their homes.
"In Grand Boulage, a village that we know well, their spring has recovered from the quake and they have food, but nearly all of the 1500 homes have been damaged, and some have been totaled," said Myriam Pasternak. "The villagers have indicated that cement is their most pressing need in order to rebuild and repair their homes before the rainy season begins. However, few people have the money to pay for cement, or the transportation needed to bring it from the Dominican republic to get it. Through my network of friends, we found someone with a large truck, who is experienced and willing to make as many trips as needed, but they must charge $3500 per trip that will bring back 400 sacks of cement to the village. The donation from Entisys and its employees will help tremendously with this and other reconstruction efforts."
Because D G Educational Services is a small nonprofit, Entisys Solutions and its employees will receive regular updates from the Pasternaks on how their dollars are being used in Haiti. "This will bring us closer to the Haitian recovery efforts, and enable us to share the impact of the Pasternak's work in Haiti, which we are now a part of," said Strohl.
